Amazon import script Can't Post

Andy,

I saw you were asking questions about Amazon and it got me thinking. While there are 3rd party Amazon scripts to import and use their datafeed, it's not using LinksSQL. OK, picture this, I'm envisioning thousands and thousands of links detail pages full of lovely products to buy all day long- ahhhhhh

So....I am wondering, would you be thinking about making a script to do this? That would make my YEAR! I could give you a list of features that would be great and reference places to check out. Sure, I can do my part! Sly

Thanks-

Meredith

Hi Meredith,

I already have a script to import Amazon products into LSQL (all 1Gb's worth).

The problem is, you have to get special access to the XML file (by emailing them) Frown (this is why I took it off the site).

Any feedback as to Amazons likelihood of allowing the feed?

Not a huge amount :*(

You need to contact them directly, to get the XML feed. If you can get hold of that, I'll be happy to sell the Amazon import script =)

Hi,

The import script itself (assuming you already have LinksSQL), is $250.

I'm really hoping that Amazon provide a better (more available) services for this in the future, so its not so hard to get hold of, and implement on our sites Frown

Re: [Andy] Amazon import script [In reply to] Can't Post

Andy,

Anyone can use the XML feed. Only programs/programmers who have signed up with Amazon can write the programs to access it.

Amazon is working under the assumption that people will steal their bandwidth and data, so they want to know who/where the access is coming from, and wants programs to behave. BTW: We also should use one developer's token -- use one token for development and one for release.

They changed their rules so you can store about 17 fields of data, and only refresh the availability and pricing data every 24 hours.

If you toss this my way, maybe I can implement it into the DVD/Book program. I was going to ignore the rest of Amazon completely, but if you've already written something....

We can have two versions. Books & DVD's and "Power Seller" <G>, but they will both use the same code, and people can then easily upgrade from the Books & DVD's version to the larger version, or vice versa.

There are extra features for books & dvds, but that shouldn't be an issue.
